The firm’s dispute resolution practice has been constantly recommended by Asia Pacific Legal 500, Asialaw Profiles and Chambers Asia Pacific. We have been ranked as Tier 1 in Dispute Resolution by Asia Pacific Legal 500 for 2017 and 2018 and highly recommended in AsiaLaw Profiles for 2013 – 2018. Words used to describe us include “fantastic”, “excellent” and “topdrawer litigators” who provide “sound advice, brilliant strategies, diligent preparation and masterful advocacy skills”. The accolades we have received are the products, we believe, of our ability, enthusiasm and professionalism in managing, prosecuting and, when necessary, resolving our clients’ legal disputes, combined with our continuous efforts to expand and improve our dispute resolution services.
Many of our litigators – Darryl Goon, Dato M Rajasekaran, Chang Wei Mun, Ravindra Kumar Rengasamy, Raja Eileen Soraya and Choon Hon Leng – have been recognised as leaders in their specific areas of practice.
The Dispute Resolution Practice Group takes pride in its impressive experience – spanning more than 50 years – in handling contentious matters. Currently the largest practice group in the firm, the team has undertaken newsworthy courtroom battles involving Fortune 500 companies, high profile individuals and governmental bodies. The lawyers have been educated both locally and abroad and have been trained to provide proactive, professional and responsive service. Apart from English and the Malay language, due to their diverse racial and cultural backgrounds, these lawyers speak many of the languages and dialects spoken in the region including Mandarin, Cantonese and Tamil.
We have always had a strong presence in general commercial and civil litigation. At the same time, our specialist litigation practices in intellectual property, industrial relations, tax, construction, banking and finance and medico-legal disputes have also gained recognition over the past few years.
Our experience is not limited to Malaysia. We have been involved in and supervised cases in other jurisdictions, notably, the People’s Republic of China, India, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the United States of America and even in Africa.
We also have a thriving practice in arbitration, both in domestic as well as international arbitrations. Our arbitration team handles a wide range of commercial and construction disputes, including those that involve cross border transactions and projects with large international corporate entities and state-owned companies.
