Our Capital Markets practice group has been quoted by clients in the 2014 edition of Chambers & Partners as having as our strength, “Commercial awareness: I love working with them – what I like about them is they have a lot of passion and go above and beyond their role at times and will tell you what you need to consider.”
In addition, in relation to the area of Capital Markets, we have been highly recommended by the AsiaLaw Profiles in years 2013 – 2016, and recommended by other reputable legal publications, namely, Chambers Asia Pacific in 2014 and Asia Pacific Legal 500 and IFLR1000 (International Financial Law Review) in 2015 – 2018.
The Ministry of Finance and the Malaysian Securities Commission indicated their recognition of RDL’s role in capital markets-related work when the firm was selected by the Cradle Fund in November 2011 as a capital markets industry trainer/coach for its GoIPO Coach & Grow Programme (CGP). RDL was 1 out of only 2 law firms to be in the GoIPO CGP which serves to groom and advise small and mid-sized Malaysian companies on their flotation on stock exchanges whether in or outside Malaysia.
Partners Tai Chu Wei and Christopher Foo have been ranked highly in legal publications for their work in capital markets.
Over the years, the firm has built up a consistent track record for advising clients desiring to conduct initial public offerings (“IPO”) of their companies’ shares on stock exchanges, whether in Malaysia or abroad. IPOs are now a regular feature of our practice. We have acted as listing lawyers for flotations not only on Bursa Malaysia but on stock exchanges in Singapore, London, Hong Kong and the United States. We also advise clients and work with fund managers and investment banks on capital market fund raising activities (whether debt or equity) on a regular basis.
Partners from our Capital Markets practice group advised on the largest fund-raising activity on Bursa Malaysia by a China-based company. We floated the first and only China-based company to successfully debut on the sponsor investment bank-driven ACE Market, Bursa Malaysia (incidentally the only ACE Market listing for 2013). We have also acted as Malaysian counsel in advising another China-based client on its listing on the GEM Market, Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (SEHK). This flotation on the SEHK has been ranked the third best on GEM (after the height of the internet bubble in 2000), an alternative fundraising platform on SEHK focused on by start-ups. In 2017, we acted as Malaysian counsel for the listing of Plover Bay Technologies Limited on the SEHK. We continue to work with select foreign clients on their listings in Malaysia and elsewhere.
We recently advised on the flotation of the very first company to debut on Bursa Malaysia’s Leading Entrepreneur Accelerator Platform (LEAP) Market. The LEAP Market, launched in July 2017, aims to provide small and medium enterprises with an alternative and efficient fund-raising and visibility platform.
