When choosing a firm, it is important that you choose a place of work that will be conducive for your development. Many candidates ask us - how do I decide? The answer is simple - look at the firm's culture - can you see yourself working in its environment?
At Raja, Darryl & Loh we believe in creating an environment that is open and warm. We work hard and at the same time encourage our lawyers to balance their work life with other areas of their life. The Raja Darryl & Loh or RDL culture as we like to call it can be summed up as follows:
-
We treat all our pupils and lawyers as an integral part of the firm
-
It is common place to see discussions on cases or points of law take place in partners' rooms or in our associates' rooms
-
Our size and the fact that we are on one floor means that the partners know the lawyers and the pupils by name - (although the older partners tend to mix the names up some times!)
-
Pupils and associates receive first hand training from the partners and the more experienced associates of the firm.

Notwithstanding all that hard work, make no mistake, at Raja, Darryl & Loh we know how to let our hair down and we provide our pupils, lawyers and staff with various opportunities for them to relax and enjoy one another’s company.
The Sports Committee of the firm organises various games and competitive events. In 2008, in line with the Beijing Olympics, our Sports Committee organised the “RDL BolehLympics”. Whilst the events were not comparable to those in Beijing by any stretch of the imagination, they nonetheless required skill, stamina and dexterity! This year, members of the firm heeded the Sports Committee battle-cry for a superhero themed games launch and were duly divided into the proud teams of Duggernauts, Fire-Starters, Knights of Hades and Tropic Thunders (no prize for guessing which team is the villain!). We had our very first "So You Think You Can Dance Ah?!" challenge which had everyone in stitches when it came down to the dancing capabilities and latent talent of the people we have here in the firm!
Quarterly dinners are usually held in various venues around Kuala Lumpur for our lawyers and pupils where we tuck into scrumptious dinners whilst being entertained by the new recruits in the firm. However, now and again, we may add another feature, eg in April 2008, we had a bowling competition followed by a karaoke session. Lest you think that we are not a hip lot - we will have you note that the partners of Raja, Darryl & Loh took our lawyers out for the exclusive GSC Premiere Class screening of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in June 2009.
Every alternate year, the firm usually goes on a trip to a local destination over the weekend. Frequently, outdoor games are played (sometimes resulting in minor sporting injuries!)
The firm’s annual dinner is held towards the end of the year to round up all the hard work – in 2007, we went to the East Coast and had a splashing time at the Swiss Garden Resort & Spa, Kuantan, while in 2008, we decked ourselves in exotic oriental garments in tune with the theme of “Oriental Night” and in 2009, we opted for the magnificent Hilton Kuala Lumpur where everyone was dressed in line with the theme "Bedtime Stories".
When do we find time to work then, you say? Sometimes we wonder ourselves....
