When choosing a firm, it is important that you choose a place of work that will be conducive for your development. Many candidates ask us - how do I decide? The answer is simple - look at the firm's culture - can you see yourself working in its environment?
At Raja, Darryl & Loh we believe in creating an environment that is open and warm. We work hard and at the same time encourage our lawyers to balance their work life with other areas of their life. The Raja Darryl & Loh or RDL culture as we like to call it can be summed up as follows:
-
We treat all our pupils and lawyers as an integral part of the firm
-
It is common place to see discussions on cases or points of law take place in partners' rooms or in our associates' rooms
-
Our size and the fact that we are on one floor means that the partners know the lawyers and the pupils by name - (although the older partners tend to mix the names up some times!)
-
Pupils and associates receive first hand training from the partners and the more experienced associates of the firm.

Notwithstanding all that hard work, make no mistake, at Raja, Darryl & Loh we know how to let our hair down and we provide our pupils, lawyers and staff with various opportunities for them to relax and enjoy one another’s company.
The Sports Committee of the firm organizes various games and competitive events. In 2009, the theme of the indoor games was Superheroes, and everyone in the firm was divided into 4 teams named Duggernauts, Fire-starters, Tropic Thunders and Knights of Hades. At the launch of the games, we had our very first “So You Think You Can Dance Ah?!” challenge which had everyone in stitches when it came down to the dancing capabilities and latent talent of the people we have here in the firm! In 2010, a firm-wide badminton tournament was held. The Sports Committee also organised a “Canteen Day”.
Quarterly dinners are held in various locations around Kuala Lumpur/Petaling Jaya where we tuck into scrumptious dinners whilst being entertained by the new recruits in the firm. However, now and again, we may add another feature, eg in June 2009, our dinner was followed by the exclusive GSC Premiere Class viewing of the movie “Transformers : Revenge of the Fallen”. In March 2010, the 3 main practice groups of the firm competed against one another in ten-pin bowling after dinner. In June 2010, in the throes of World Cup fever, we had our dinner at the Kuala Lumpur Renaissance Hotel where we held a football trivia competition amongst, again, the 3 main practice groups of the firm, after which we watched the World Cup match between Portugal and Brazil. Some of the more ardent supporters even wore their team's colours!
Every alternate year, the firm usually goes on a trip to a local destination over the weekend. Frequently, outdoor games are played (sometimes resulting in minor sporting injuries!). In 2010, we played our games on the beautiful beach at the Golden Sands Resort in Batu Ferringhi, Penang. Our Annual Dinner and Dance, with the theme, ”Made in the 80’s”, was held at the Golden Sands Resort during the same weekend. In 2009, our Annual Dinner and Dance was at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur, where everyone came dressed to the theme of “Bedtime Stories”.
When do we find time to work then, you say? Sometimes we wonder ourselves….
